Gary Powers P.E., CEM

President and CEO

Gary PowersGary founded United Engineering, Inc. in May of 1996.  In 2009, Gary partnered with Aaron Mason to establish the Hawkeye Energy Solutions division of United Engineering. Gary’s focus is on overall daily operations but his expertise lies in a wide range of Industrial Ventilation & plant utility systems design. For over 30 years, Gary has developed the company's expertise in improving industrial plant worker-level environments. This includes: worker level comfort, air-quality, filtration, ventilation, and room humidity control.

Gary holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette University.  Gary is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) as well as a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the states of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.  Gary is a member of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).  Gary is Tridium Niagara AX certified and has had several publications including “Using web-based control systems to manage building utility usage”, Green Manufacturer, July/August 2011; “Smart buildings’ necessary to reduce energy costs”, Daily Herald Business Ledger, Jan 24, 2011; and “Dynamic Data”, Retrofit Magazine, May-Jun 2013. Gary holds a patent on the Toadstool industrial ventilation fan with multiple patents in progress.

Aaron Mason

Director of Operations

Aaron MasonIn 2009 Aaron joined United Engineering as Director of Operations for the Hawkeye Energy Solutions division of United Engineering. Aaron’s focus is on utility metering, building controls, and data analytics for the industrial and commercial building sector. Aaron has overseen hundreds of projects aimed at improving processes through system’s integration, energy metering, and data analytics. Aaron has been involved in system’s integration, data analytics, energy reduction, and process optimization projects across the United States. Aaron started his career working in the manufacturing sector as a process engineer where he oversaw projects ranging from simple lighting controls to complex industrial heating applications.

Aaron holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in General Engineering from The University of Illinois. Aaron also holds a Six Sigma Green Belt, is Niagara AX & N4 Certified, and previously held a position as Chair of the Sustainable Manufacturers Network Advisory Board.

Ian Bonadeo P.E.

Project Engineer

Ian Bonadeo P.E.Ian is our problem-solving powerhouse. Ian’s expertise lies in system development, integration, and data analytics. Ian has experience in multiple arenas such as critical environments (including Biosafety level 3 Laboratories), utility systems, and HVAC control systems. Ian is also an active ASHRAE member participating in various control-related technical groups.

Ian holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago (Summa Cum Laude). Ian is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois and he is a certified Tridium Niagara 4 Developer. Ian also holds multiple certifications including: Niagara 4 Developer Certification, UCI BSL-3 Laboratory O&M Certification, UCI ANSI Z9.14 BSL-3 Certification, Niagara 4 Advanced Technical Certification, Niagara 4 Analytics Certification, Niagara 4 Technical Certification, and a Honeywell Spyder BACnet Certification.

Michael Wessel

Controls Project Engineer

Michael WesselMike is a detailed high-level troubleshooter and processes improvement specialist. Mike’s focus is on building controls integration, utility metering, and data analytics. Mike has extensive knowledge in the design and installation of commercial, critical, pharma, and research of environmental systems. Mike is experienced in building automation (including installation, service, and retro-commissioning) of various systems found in a wide spectrum of environments. Mike is dedicated to delivering a safe and comfortable environment while continuously seeking energy optimization and equipment longevity.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from DeVry University.

Mark Mammosser

Project Engineer

Mark MammosserFor over 20 years, Mark has been instrumental as a lead engineer and project manager. Mark is our utility infielder who crosses our T’s and dots our I’s. Mark is our go to guy for local and international codes and standards.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Illinois State University. Mark is certified in multiple different platforms including AutoCAD, Revit, Carrier E20-II, Niagara Ax and SolidWorks to name a few.

Jourdyn Senyard

Automations Technician

Jourdyn SenyardJourdyn programs, manages and troubleshoots automation and metering projects.

Jourdyn holds an Associate’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Automated Systems from Joliet Junior College as well as a Certificate of Completion in Industrial Maintenance Technology. Jourdyn is Niagara AX & N4 Certified and is also Rockwell certified.

Christine Downing

Office Manager

Christine DowningFor over 12 years Christine has been keeping everything in our office running smoothly. Christine is our office manager and oversees bookkeeping, project accounting, purchasing, office operations, and customer service.

Christine holds an Associate’s degree in General Business from Oakton Community College.

Shirley Cameron

Office Assistant

Shirley CameronShirley assists with bookkeeping, reception, and day-to-day operations in the office.

Shirley has many years of experience in office operations and customer service.
